Yes, it's cold, but then I do live in Fargo!

Well, we made the national news today for our cold temps, but it made me laugh.  I live in Fargo, ND for crying-out-loud and it does get cold here now and then.  Negative temps happen all the time, and it really isn't that cold as I haven't had to get my hairdryer and thaw out my frozen pipes yet this year.

Loki trying to stay warm in our frigid home.
So even though the past few days have not been the coldest in recent years my little dog, Loki, wanted nothing to do with the great outdoors.  Yesterday, before church I had to roust him out of his kennel to go outside. When he found out what I wanted he ran off.  I had to chase the little devil all over the house.  Which was probably good as it warmed me up a bit. Then back to his kennel he went and I literally had to pick it up on one end to get him to slide out.  Once outside he did his little job and was back inside the house in under a minute.

After braving the elements to go to church I thought Loki did have the right idea.  Maybe not sleep in a kennel, but all I wanted to do was sit bundled up in front of our space heater, sipping a hot mug of coffee and watching some TV.  One problem was my Mid-western work ethic (or maybe my German heritage) kicked in and I felt a bit guilty doing nothing but sitting so I went looking for a crochet pattern that would not only give me something to do, but would also help me stay warm if I ventured back outside.

I found this free pattern:  Blooming Purple Beanie.  I like my hats a bit more subdued and so I used a cream thread instead.  Once completed I attached the flower with a button.  This way I can change out the flower to ones of different colors.  Plus I thought the button added a nice touch.  It was an easy project and kept my hands busy while I watched All Creatures Great and Small (thank you Netflix for adding it again) and, even if I do say so myself, I think the hat turned out quite cute.
Now I am going to complete a couple more for my kids.  I will post pictures of those when I get them done.

I completed this hat yesterday.  I used baby yarn and so I doubled it, but used the same hook.  The hat ended up the same size as the one above.  Again I used a different color yarn for the flower and attached it with a button.  I know the picture does not do it justice, bu the hat is extremely cute and I have had many compliments from friends and requests to show them how to make one.
