4-H Mother's Day Projects: Cards and Bird's Nest Necklace

For our first meeting in April the children made cards to give to their moms, grandmothers or aunts for Mother's Day.  I wasn't there to take any pictures and I am not allowed to look at the cards my own children made - I may getting one or two for Mother's Day!

For our second meeting this month I had the children make bird's nest necklaces.  I had seen them on various websites on line and they are quite simple to make and they always seem to look great no matter what age makes them.

First, the children picked out the same number of beads as the number of children the mother had for whom they were making the necklace.  They then strung them on a wire and began wrapping the wire around the beads to create the look of a nest.  When almost out of wire they attached it by wrapping the wire around itself and then made a loop for the chain.  Lastly they had to attach the hook to the chain.

Now the children have a card and a gift to give to someone they love on Mother's Day.

I think all the necklaces are so unique and quite beautiful and I know the recipients of the necklaces will be proud to where them.

    1. Dear Vivacious, (Love your name by the way)

I am sorry to say I have not checked in on my blog in weeks due to life and taking a class. So I am truly sorry for not getting back to you. Also, I am unable to use your e-mail as I believe you did not post it correctly so I hope you will come back and see my answer.

Because I am super cheap I find many of my beads at garage sales. Or I will even pick up cheap beaded necklaces at the yard sales and use those beads. But if I must I will purchase my beads at Hobby Lobby. They have frequent sales plus they have that wonderful 40% off coupon. That is also where I purchase the wire. You could also go to your local hardware store (ie Menards, Home Depot, Lowes) and purchase thin gauge wire. I like to purchase wire there because you can get it in so many thicknesses. Hope that helps and thanks for stopping by.
