Here is the breakdown for Week #6
Meat: Nothing
Fruit and Vegetables: Nothing
Dairy: 4 Cartons of Milk at $3.46 each
Misc.: 2 Packages of Flour Tortillas at $1.25 each
Here is a list of the meals we had this week:
Breakfast: Homemade Granola, Homemade Grape Nuts, Oatmeal, Malt-O-Meal, Waffles or Toast.
Dinner: Leftovers from supper or Sandwiches from my Freshly Ground Whole Wheat Bread and Yogurt
Supper:
Sunday - Fend for yourself night.
Monday - Fend for yourself night: Take Two. My parents were in town and took us out for lunch. After an extremely filling meal at the local Chinese Restaurant and a few too many fresh-from-the-oven cinnamon rolls I had no interest in making a large meal for supper.
Tuesday - Chili and Cornbread
Wednesday - Baked Potatoes with Chili and Cheese
Thursday - Pork Chops in Cream of Mushroom Soup, Hash Browns and Green Beans
Friday - Scrambled Eggs, French Toast and Breakfast Sausage
Saturday - Sweet and Sour Pork, Rice and Green Beans
Desserts: Caramel Rolls, Frosted Brownies
You may wonder how I stretch my budget? One way is to use meat sparingly. For example the chili I made used 3 lbs of hamburger, but I was able to freeze over half of it for future use and the rest gave me 2 meals for supper and a couple of meals for dinner. Not bad. A few weeks ago I purchased the boneless pork and cut the 4 lbs in half. I made the first meal of pork chops and used the rest to make the sweet and sour pork. The cost of the pork, hamburger and breakfast sausage was less than $12 of meat for almost a weeks worth of meals.
