$50 Per Week Grocery Challenge - Week #10

How Much Did I Spend For Week #10?

This week I had a goal: to only spend $40 for the week and save the $10 for future use.  I want to clean out the extra freezer we have and not use it anymore.  I believe running a freezer is quite expensive.  Plus I inevitably lose a hunk of meat in the back and it gets freezer burnt.  So, until I use up all the meat in that freezer I will not purchase any.  And that is why I want to save $10 a week and use it when I begin to purchase meat again, but as usual "the road to hell is paved with good intentions" and I spent more than $40.

I went to a grocery store and Sams and spent a total of $46.23.  There was a great deal the grocery store for condiments at $.70 each.  Well, I should have checked my shelves, because I have a dozen bottles of ketchup now and we hardly ever use it.  I must have 2 years worth of ketchup.  Reminder to self: keep my pantry better organized.

Here is the breakdown for Week #10

Meat:  None

Fruit and Vegetables:  3 lbs Bananas for $1.36, 2 Bunches of Cilantro for $.98

Dinner:  Leftovers from supper or Sandwiches from my Freshly Ground Whole Wheat Bread and Yogurt

Supper:

Sunday - Still out of town

Monday - Cereal (We ate so much this weekend and none of us were hungry and so the kids had a bowl of cereal for supper.  My darn in-laws feed us way too well.)

Tuesday -  Grilled boneless pork chops, grilled baked potatoes and green beans.

Wednesday - Chili Dogs, Fried Potatoes and Frozen Vegetables (I used chili from the freezer and instead of hot-dog buns we ate the chili dogs with the free bread from the grocery store.  I used the potatoes from yesterday, cut them up with the skins still on and fried in a bit of butter and seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic and fresh green onions from the garden.  Since I am on a mission to clear out the freezer we had 3 different types of frozen vegis to choose: green beans, corn and peas.)

Thursday - Cilantro Lime Chicken and White Rice

Friday - 1 Pot Spaghetti and Salad

Saturday - Leftovers of Spaghetti and Cilantro Lime Chicken
